Artwork | Anagama Firing
These sets of works are produced from an anagama kiln. Through different techniques such as placement within kiln, wrapping of materials, mark-making, and use of different clay bodies, the texture and color of clay come out very differently. The whole act is a type of meditation. Throwing, drying, marking, adapting, and firing was a five week meditative act to produce these works. Materials have their own voice. Some materials are activated simply by cutting, and others require more time and effort. Clay and anagama kiln firing is one way to activate the clay’s surface. It is a process that is fully controlled yet unpredictable. It is an act of meditation, an act of concentration.
